Eli Roth: Please Make the ‘Thanksgiving’ Movie

ThanksgivingIt’s Thanksgiving! A day for gratitude, family, food…and pining over the trailer for Eli Roth’s slasher film of the same name!

Used as a mock trailer for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 Grindhouse double-feature, Thanksgiving is a “movie” about a serial killer dressed as a pilgrim and it’s brutal as all hell.

According to Roth, “My friend Jeff, who plays the killer pilgrim – we grew up in Massachusetts, we were huge slasher movie fans and every November we were waiting for the Thanksgiving slasher movie. We had the whole movie worked out: A kid who’s in love with a turkey, and then his father killed it, and then he killed his family and went away to a mental institution and came back and took revenge on the town. I called Jeff and said, ‘Dude, guess what, we don’t have to make the movie, we can just shoot the best parts. Shooting the trailer was so much fun because every shot is a money shot. Every shot is decapitation or nudity. It’s so ridiculous, it’s absurd. It’s just so wrong and sick that it’s right.”

Shortly after 2007, Roth said he had planned on actually making Thanksgiving into a full-length feature film. This slasher fan is still waiting.

*UPDATE* As of November 2016, Roth hit up Reddit to do some press for Clown. He had this to say about this goddamn Turkey Day movie: “Have a draft not totally happy with. I want to put some more work into it so the film lives up to the trailer. We have the story and mythology cracked so now it’s about getting the kills right.”

Don’t abandon hope yet, Thanksgiving/slasher fans! I JUST NEED THIS KILLER PILGRIM IN MY LIFE.

Check out the trailer below – and Happy Thanksgiving!
