It’s a New Weekly Series, You Guys! Meet: ‘Happening Sh*t’

What’s shaking, gobstoppers? Today, TLW is introducing a brand new weekly series, and if you are already apt in reading the English language, you already know that it’s entitled: “Happening Sh*t.”

Each Friday, TLW will be posting some pretty rockin’ stuffs for your viewing or reading pleasure. These items of note will most likely be: A) comprised of things I am far too lazy to officially review, B) so super awesome that they must be on your radar, or C) unreleased or upcoming pop culture nuggets that you’ll need in your life before your impending doom.

Sooooo, yeah.

Also, this series will really fulfill my wanton desire to infuse “happening shit” into my regular lexicon.

This week’s shiz includes an upcoming new Comedy Central show, Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to his superamazingholymindfuck treat District 9, and an upcoming dramedy with a killer ensemble. Without further adieu, gentle readers, here is some Happening Sh*t:

Schymer

Comedy Central is debuting a new show called Inside Amy Schumer, starring none other than the former Last Comic Standing funnygal (but you probably know her from the Charlie Sheen and Roseanne Barr roasts, and maybe her co-host gig on A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus, which was actually much better than it sounds)A mix of skits, her stand-up, and man on the street interviews, Schumer’s show will likely cover the same turf her Comedy Central special did: sex, relationships, and her own personal, endearing tales of douchebaggery. It’s worth noting that Tig Notaro is on her writing staff (and if you haven’t heard Notaro’s Live set yet, you have sorely missed out in life). Enough squawkin’ – head over to AV Club and check out the trailer for Inside Amy Schumer. Then, check it out April 30th on Comedy Central.

elysium

Four years after blowing everyone’s minds with District 9, Neill Blomkamp returns with Elysium, a Sci-Fi film about Earth’s inhabitants striving to get to the advanced secondary space place called Elysium to steal some medical supplies after their own planet is nearly destroyed. Matt Damon shows up and is the world’s answer to peace on Earth…or Peace in the Universe or whatever. Expect biting social commentary about the state of our world and immigration laws and junk. Also expect some out of this world (HAAAA) action sequences that star Jason Bourne and Jodie Foster (!). Here’s to hoping that Elysium capitalizes on what Blomkamp started with District 9 (and that we don’t get totally Richard Kelly-ed on this one). The movie hits theaters August 9, but for now, Paste has the trailer up here.

Tina-Fey-Jason-Bateman

Casting news for Shawn Levy’s This is Where I Leave You continues to roll out…and continues to be exciting. Joining Tina Fey and Jason Bateman are Corey Stoll (House of Cards) and Adam Driver (Girls); the four portray siblings reuniting back at their childhood home at the request of their now-deceased father. The story is a film adaptation of the book of the same name by Jonathan Tropper. Connie Britton, Ben Schwartz and Timothy Olyphant round out this already impressive ensemble. I’m already sold. (EW)

Now that’s some happening shit, riiight!?

Damn. I already played it out.

Hit me up on Facebook or Twitter and share some Happening Shit of your own. If your entry is chosen, you and a friend will get…nothing. You’ll get nothing.
