Paul Feig ain’t afraid of no ghosts. He ain’t afraid of no trolls either.

The Freaks and Geeks creator’s reboot of the seminal 1984 classic Ghostbusters hit theaters this weekend, and quite frankly, I enjoyed the hell out of it. If you aren’t aware of the backlash against it by now, Google “misogyny” and surely, pages and pages of haterade about Ghostbusters will pop up. Rather than focus on the tiresome heat this project has been facing since its announcement, I’d like to offer a few reasons why you should ignore the haterz and hit the box office.

1. The reboot is supported by all the major main players including producer (and original series director) Ivan Reitman, original writer and SNL vet Dan Aykroyd, original Ghostbusters Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts. In fact, all of the actors mentioned have cameos in the new movie, too! Isn’t their seal of approval enough for trolls to shut up and sit down? Since they’re on board, you should be too.

2. There are plenty of callbacks to the original without rehashing old jokes and storylines. We get to see Slimer again (!) and even the Stay Puft Marshmallow man (!!), along with a slew of other easter eggs sprinkled throughout. In all seriousness: There’s essentially no difference between the lauded Jurassic World and the new Ghostbusters.

3. The series is in great hands. Feig has quite the resume under his belt: Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, FREAKS AND GEEKS. Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy certainly need no defending either. Those three aside, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon absolutely crushed it—specifically McKinnon, whose every uttered word and facial expression was a perfectly timed kooky romp. Her performance in this movie sort of makes me regret ignoring SNL for the last couple years. Oops.

4. Harold Ramis, Aykroyd and Reitman tried to get a proper third film off the ground—and Murray kept screwing it up. There were multiple scripts, multiple attempts and multiple rejections from Murray (read all about it here). They tried to make their own continued version, but then, Ramis sadly passed away. So why not attempt to continue its legacy, especially with the support from the original creative team? Hollywood has remade or rebooted Psycho, Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus an ungodly amount more. What makes this franchise any more sacred than some of those? And after all…even Murray couldn’t resist Feig’s script.

5. Female-fronted films are still a rarity in Hollywood, and yes, that’s a problem. Out of the Top 100 highest grossing films worldwide, only eight were led by females and four of those starred Katniss Everdeen. This is exactly why Patricia Arquette gave the Oscars speech she did. Ghostbusters being rebooted with female leads is a great thing for the industry because diversity in film is incredibly important and should represent our society. Sure, this is only a silly comedy about ghosts, but having strong female characters in art is certainly something everyone should get behind. This lack of equality in the Hollywood Boys’ Club is partly why Feig took on this challenging task in the first place.

He told Vulture: “I wanted for little girls to be able to see themselves up on the screen. The original one exists, so you can see boys doing it, but how fun for girls to have this experience!” He also pushed hard for new Ghostbusters action figures as well. “There was some resistance because there’s a fear that boys wouldn’t buy toys from a movie starring girls. But guys have such great feelings of nostalgia because the original had a lot of gear. I’d like girls to be able to put on a proton pack and run around.”

There’s no reason why new Ghostbusters shouldn’t be female, just as there’s no reason why fans of the former movies should shun this one. The new Ghostbusters is a great summer Blockbuster with dazzling CGI, a healthy dose of nostalgia, and a bunch of familiar faces, both old and new. There are far worse movies you could spend your money on this summer.

So quit trollin’. K?
