In her new video for “Hard Out Here,” Lily Allen, the bratty, take-no-bullshit British pop star, is back and ready to take on the sex-crazed, twerk-fueled pop world that she took a hiatus from these last few years.
This is mostly good news for the following reasons:
1. Allen isn’t afraid to speak her mind and call society out for being stupid.
2. Her music is sincere and from the heart, even if she’s complaining about this or that and not giving a fuck about how it makes her look.
3. She’s eclectic, blending many diverse styles (reggae, western, Italian, etc.) into her well-fashioned Pop.
4. The Brits have been killing the music scene over the last decade.
The message of “Hard Out Here” is spot-on: “Don’t need to shake my ass for you cuz I’ve got a brain.” “If I told you about my sex life, you’d call me a slut. When boys be talking about their bitches, no one’s making a fuss.” “Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits. It’s hard out here for a bitch.”
If there’s anyone ballsy enough to raise a red flag about sexism, double-standards, and the douchebaggery of the music industry, fear not: Lily and her big mouth are back on the scene.
“Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits. It’s hard out here for a bitch.”
Fuck Yeah!
I can’t complain when Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin pair up. It always makes for a pretty awesome result and this is no exception. Good to see her back.
