The entire Halloween series is finally being released in a single, sexy package thanks to Scream Factory and Anchor Bay Entertainment. In celebration of Friday the 13th, the cover art for the collection was unveiled and it looks like fans and collectors are both going to flip for it.
Halloween: The Complete Collection Blu-ray series will be released September 23rd. The creative attached is from the 15-disc Deluxe Edition, and includes a rigid slipcase to house all the films, a bonus disc packed with extras and a collectible 40-page book. A 10-Disc edition will also release, containing only the films, and a few selected extras.
Both companies say more details are forthcoming (in the next month), so if you’re considering throwing down the cash, you might want to wait it out just a while longer (It’s currently listed for $119 on Amazon).
Most notably, this collection is going to have the previously unreleased Producer’s Cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. According to Wikipedia, an always reliable and never inaccurate source of info (HA):
“Copies of the original version of the film (known as the “Producer’s Cut”), without the changed ending, have long been floating around in bootleg/collectors’ circles. In addition to featuring a different ending which was intended to keep Donald Pleasence’s character in the films, it also features longer scenes in several parts of the movie, as well as different music at times. Major plot points differ between the two cuts. For example, in the Producer’s Cut, Jamie Lloyd is not killed by Michael’s attack in the barn; she is wounded only to be killed later on in the film by the “Man in Black” after having a dream about how she was imprisoned in Smith’s Grove and impregnated with Michael’s child. There is also a flashback to Halloween 5 that shows Jamie and Michael kidnapped by the “Man in Black.”
It’s going to be a total geekout for nerds like me who’ve been waiting nearly 10 years to see it. Will it be worth the hefty price tag for fans who already own most of the series? Not sure. At least for some (like me), the purchase will at least upgrade us from standard DVD quality to Blu-ray…so that might be worth it alone right there.
Coming soon on The Winz: A few years ago, I did a ranking of my favorite Friday the 13th films, starting from the worst and ending with my favorite. I believe it’s time to do the same for the Halloween series. Look for that soon! In the meantime, I’ll be here fighting the urge to buy this immediately.
