Geeks and fans of the genre assemble. High-five each other. Give each other a powerful, yet manly embrace. Alright, alright…you can stop touching each other now. I mean it. Stop it. You’re creeping me out now.
Horror is happening this week on The Winz. Check it:
Insidious: Chapter 2 Trailer
“Nothing’s gonna bother us. Not anymore. We have our son back!” said every delusional and damned horror family ever. The first chapter of this series, Insidious (2011), was creepy as hell. Daring and original. I was a huge, huge fan of the story, make-up, and scare tactics that director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell came up with (if only these guys didn’t destroy the Saw series. ugh). The trailer for this second chapter looks just as appetizing. The Dad went to save his son…in the other world place…and he did that…but brought something back. Damn. I guess I could benefit from rewatching the original. If you’re looking for an original horror tale, check it out soon because the sequel’s trailer looks entirely promising.
Oh, it’s…another trailer: The Purge
So this may not be your traditional horror fare, but dammit, the trailer for The Purge looks terrifying. If there’s one genre of flicks I find truly scary, it’s anything that remotely resembles a home invasion. The Strangers, Funny Games – that shit freaks me out, man. In The Purge, for 12 hours, any type of crime is legal in the United States. They call it “The Purge.” Home invasions happen. A family is terrorized. Eek. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey star in this James DeMonaco Thriller that is also produced by Michael Bay – but don’t hold that against it. And oh, hey – Parenthood Alert: Max Burkholder plays the kid. It’ll be interesting to see him portray a character sans Asperger’s – we know he’s got acting chops, that’s for sure. This hits theaters today. If it sucks…blame someone else.
Jason Voorhees Returns to Paramount
Friday the 13th fans rejoice! Paramount Pictures has landed the license to bring Jason Voorhees back to the big screen! This series has been juggled between Paramount, New Line and Warner’s for God knows how long. It’s actually a quite messy history (you can read about it over on Bloody Disgusting), one that actually prevented a sequel of the reboot from happening for the past few years. New Line (owned by Warner’s) was the company to produce Jason X and Jason Goes to Hell. When the remake was scheduled for production, Paramount still owned certain rights and was brought in as a 50/50 partner. So yada, yada yada…Warner’s and Paramount copped a new deal and this means MORE JASON.
High-five again Horror fans. OK, stop hugging now. No touching.
