Sam Smith, the British Pop singer-songwriter featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch,” has a voice. That much is certain. It’s one of those voices that blows you away the second it hits your ear, and then blows you away again once you see the guy it comes out of. (Mayer Hawthorne, anyone?)
With a talent this humungo, it’s no surprise that Sam Smith is having a moment. His guest spots keep adding up and his album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in the UK at the end of May. Though some of his singles may not exactly be my bag (“Stay With Me” and “Lay Me Down,” por ejemplo), this guy is right up there with the Adeles and Emeli Sandés of Britain.
But what really needs to be discussed here is this mindblowing cover of the divalicious Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know?” Clearly, one of the greatest tracks in Houston’s catalog, (though I always appreciate an Office Space ref, I can’t say I celebrate it all), Smith totally Babe Ruth’s this shit like no other during a session recorded for SiriusXM.
And I like his glasses.
And I like the Internet for providing us with gems like this.
