When it was originally reported, Pop Pop Depression seemed like a new band or supergroup or something. Now that a few tracks have been released – including “Gardenia” and “Break Into Your Heart” – it’s clear that the project is actually Iggy Pop’s 17th solo effort. (Is anyone else surprised that dude has 17 solo records!? When did that happen?)
The lineup for thie album is sexy as hell. Josh Homme produced the album and plays in the band which is rounded out by Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders and Queens of the Stone Age/The Dead Weather multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita. So real talk: there’s still plenty to be excited for here!
Mostly recorded in Homme’s studio in Joshua Tree, Calif., The Stooges singer told Rolling Stone that Homme “took me to a place I’d never been,” while the Queens of the Stone Age mastermind added: “This was to go where neither of us had gone before. That was the agreement. And to go all the way.”
All the way, they did. Check out the new tracks below. Post Pop Depression is out on March 18 via Loma Vista.
