Dear gentle readers: Sorry the TLW world has been quiet lately. I just got back from a badass Euro trip and my head is still spinning and coming down from Amsterdam’s smoke-filled coffeeshops. More on that later…but it seemed fairly legit that my first post back in over two weeks should be about cats, so read on if you like pussy.
For the past forever many days, El-P – one half of the fancy stone-themed rap duo Run the Jewels – has teased snippets from the group’s upcoming cat-centric remix album entitled “Meow the Jewels.”
Yep. CAT-CENTRIC. You read that right, my feline-loving friends.
The entire project started out as one huge joke. Before the release of last year’s Run the Jewels 2, the group announced a list of fake pre-order packages for the album’s release. One of which – you guessed it – “Meow the Jewels,” which was billed as a remixed version primarily featuring cat sounds. Because the Internet is an enigma, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in bacon, a fan picked up the ball and ran with it (and other sports metaphors, too!) and started a Kickstarter page to raise the monies. Since El-P is both awesome and digs a snappy joshing, he promised to make it happen if the project got funded.
And once again, because the Internet is a mighty wildebeest: it happened. All profits will go to charity, too, so bonus!
Here are some stellar cuts from the album: “Oh My Darling (Don’t Meow)” and “Meowrly.” They are the most amazing things you will ever hear. It’s all downhill from here. (Sorry.)
The album will drop soon. Later. Definitely not today, probably not tomorrow, but sometime after that. Maybe.
