Sometimes, I still feel the need to apologize for my semi-new infatuation with EDM. To my friends, my family, my readers. I guess it’s safe to say that at times, EDM feels like a guilty pleasure that I need to whip myself in a closet for. On the other hand, at the peak of some kickass bass pounding and energy surging, there are plenty of times when I’m feeling quite unapologetic as I bask in pure bliss while jamming out to tunes like Cash Cash’s “Overtime” or “Michael Jackson (The Beat Goes On).” So fuck it. Let’s rage.
Cash Cash is comprised of Jean Paul Makhlouf, Sam Frisch, and Alexander Luke Makhlouf, a trio of DJ/producers hailing from Roseland, New Jersey. After their rock band The Consequences disbanded, the three turned on their heels and headed down an EDM path, remixing tracks by artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Capital Cities, Krewella, Lady Gaga, and more, and covering songs like Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch” and Alphaville’s “Forever Young” – all while creating their own EPs and LPs. They’re ambitious, to say the least.
Cash Cash’s original tunes offer high energy, fun hooks, great build-ups, and just a slight peek into Dubstep, which never completely takes over (for those who despise Dubstep, you’re mostly in the clear here). If you find yourself shying away from Dub, but enjoying artists like Zedd, Calvin Harris, or Capital Cities, this is for you.
Personally, I’m a big fan of The Beat Goes On and Overtime EPs (2012 and 2013, respectively), so here are a couple samples of radness. Cuz it’s Monday.
Of the three here I think I definitely dig “Overtime” the most, although it’s hard not to like a song that rattles through Michael Jackson song titles like it’s nothing special!
