A love scorned stranger walks into a diner, jet-black hair down to his shoulders and a real affinity for donning sunglasses at night. He’s rocking a mean floor-length trenchcoat that hides his trusty raygun he busts out mid-video. He screams with no abandon, “I used to love you!” in a vaguely, maybe-European accent that is, by now, completely unmistakable: Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy Wiseau is in a music video.
If ever a raygun-wielding B-movie actor is needed for a lo-fi clip teeming with sci-fi and nostalgia, Tommy Wiseau is the enigma ready to step into action. In The Neighborhood’s new video for “Scary Love,” the lead single off the band’s third and self-titled album, Wiseau is a heartbroken man seeking the attention of a punk waitress, who, along with her co-workers, sports glowing eyes and very well might be an alien. The video is bathed in neon and looks like it was plucked from the depths of an all-80’s VHS bargain bin. And that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.
It’s a four-minute clip that I wish was instantly greenlit to a full-length feature. Hey, if it can happen to Kung Fury, anything is possible.
The video screened after the credits of Wiseau’s latest film, Best Friends, but you can check it out below. Dear Everyone With Money Seeking Talent: HIRE TOMMY WISEAU FOR EVERYTHING. Great, thanks.
