Janelle Monáe busted out on the scene with her 2007 EP Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase. Since then, the EPs of Suites 2-4 were scrapped in lieu of an opening gig for No Doubt in the summer of 2009 and production on her first full-length, The ArchAndroid (Suites 2 and 3), in stores now.
Monáe’s genre-bending and bluesy, soulful talent puts her up there with such heavy-hitters as Outkast and Santogold. On the new “Tightrope,” Monáe kicks it with Outkast’s Big Boi and struts her dance moves all over the place. She’s definitely a breath of fresh air. Check her out.
