You’re probably wondering why you don’t recognize 40% of the songs on this setlist. We wondered the same thing last night at OK Go’s show at Toad’s Place in New Haven.
The songs we did know were rockin’. Highlights included a pumped up “Don’t Ask Me,” “Invincible,” “It’s A Disaster,” and “Get Over It.” The band also played a mellow “What To Do” with only bells that proved to shake things up a bit.
But other than that, it was a set filled with low lows after every high high. It’s as if the band didn’t have the ability to create a good flow in the set. Although live audiences are a great platform to test new songs on, there simply were too many. Every time the energry was kicked into high gear, the band did an excellent job of destroying the flow with a song that 99% of the audience simply didn’t know. StOOOpid.
This wasn’t my first time seeing the band – they opened up for The Donnas in 2003. At the time, I knew one song: “Get Over It.” The band had more energy as an opener than they did at this headlining show. And I don’t really know what to make of that. This is not to say that they band didn’t sound great when they got into the groove – they just failed to keep that groove steady and build towards a killer finish.
Here’s a few photos from the show:
