Nashville singer-songwriter Sophie Allison, aka Soccer Mommy, attracted buzz and fans when she uploaded her raw, personal indie jams to Bampcamp three years ago. This month, her debut LP Clean finally dropped, showcasing Allison’s personal penned takes against a backdrop of slacker rock and acoustic lullabies.
Though she took to the DIY approach for her Bandcamp page, she enlisted Gabe Wax (The War On Drugs, Fleet Foxes) to help her add grandiosity and layers to the record. The singer points to Avril Lavigne’s pop/emo flair as inspiration, but Soccer Mommy is more Liz Phair and Angel Olsen than Avril. Clean will make you want to get in your car, head west and never stop until you hit the ocean. Look no further than “Your Dog” for proof.
Speaking to The FADER, she said, the album is “a realization that you can’t deny your emotions. It’s in the stars.”
