Nostalgia doesn’t seem to go out of fashion and Spotify is banking on it.
The service recently introduced “Your Time Capsule” playlists, which aim to send you straight back to high school with the tap of a finger. Spotify is boasting “two hours of iconic throwback tracks,” which according to my personal lineup is mostly accurate (though “iconic” is certainly questionable).
The playlist uses your musical tastes as a reference and makes a 50-track predictive playlist based on a mysterious algorithm, a user’s age and location, wizardry, a dash of frog’s breath, and an incantation of some sort. The result is a pretty on-the-money playlist filled with old favorites and guilty pleasures. It’s a 120-minute eargasm that won’t fail to entertain and embarrass. These time capsules will be stagnant, so don’t expect updates like the Discover Weekly playlist.
I’ll share mine below. Note: I share a premium account with my wife. (Now that I read that back, it sounds like a defense, but I don’t intend it to be. I’m just really glad my other half never got into any other boy band besides 2Gether.) Also, I’m not really sure why The Spice Girls are on my list, but it would be pretty funny if Spotify trolled everyone and threw “Wannabe” on every single user’s list. Yeah…let’s pretend they’re that funny. HAHA! HA! …ha.
Wait…why are you surprised that the Spice Girls are on your playlist with you own the Spice World movie?!
LENAAA! Now the internet will never believe that it’s not mine. Just like Austin Powers and his penis pump.
