When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother (Jane Fonda) and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they attempt to reconnect amid the chaos, humor and redemption that only families can provide.
This Is Where I Leave You is an adaptation of a book by one of my favorite authors, Jonathan Tropper, who is also an Executive Producer and Screenwriter for the film. Tropper excels in familial dramas and messy relationships, but he’s never sappy or unrealistic. His stories are sprinkled with just enough quirk, humor and humanity giving his characters a sense of realism that is extremely satisfying for Dramedy fans.
From this trailer, the film looks like it follows suit. Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Date Night), the cast is one of epic proportions: Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda.
I just don’t think it gets any better than that – it should at least warrant a trailer-viewing:
This Is Where I Leave You hits theaters September 12. I highly recommend this book, and also Tropper’s “The Book of Joe.”
wooooowooooo
Tropperrrrrrr
Sounds a bit “Big Chill”-y.
