On February 7, Van Halen will release its first album with David Lee Roth in 28 years titled A Different Kind of Truth. Now I ask thee, fellow readers: To care, or not to care? That is the question.

But lets not be hasty. Check out the newly-released first single, “Tattoo,” below:

After a couple spins, I must say I’m pretty impressed. Not because the song is overly excellent, but because my expectations were pretty low. I guess unjustly so! It’ll be kind of exciting to see what these guys can do now that Roth is a steadfast member of the band, especially after rave reviews of their last tour.

And this single song destroys both Chickenfoot albums I’ve heard. Catchy hook, killer solo, Roth’s swagger. Nice!

It also reminds me that my life could only benefit by revisiting Van Halen II and 1984.
