Word out on the street is that Ben Stiller is planning/talking about/seeking a script for the sequel to his 2001 male modeling comedy extraordinaire.
IMDB reports that Stiller always wanted to complete the story of Derek Zoolander. “I’ve been trying to get Zoolander 2 together and we’ve had a few scripts. I feel that is the sequel I really would like to do some day because I like the original and I would make sure it was something new and worthy of it first,” Stiller said.
I love Zoolander. It was one of those comedies that was so far out there that it really made you work to appreciate its insanity. Multiple viewings later, it remains one of my favorite comedies ever and probably my favorite Ben Stiller movie (“There’s Something About Mary”? Way overrated!). But a sequel? What story could there possibly be left to finish!?
Though slightly confused as to how this seemingly stand-alone film would work the second time ’round, I would definitely go see Z-2 if it contained the following: An update of Zoolander’s life post-Magnum (i.e., his next look he’s working on), Owen Wilson – because Hansel is so key to the story and the overall effectiveness of the first movie, and lastly, both Billy Zane and David Bowie.
Why? I don’t know.
But why the hell not?
